How to Turn Your Balcony Into a Stylish Green Space

If you live in an apartment where your only outdoor solitude is found on the balcony, then you might feel a bit of envy when glancing at those beautiful magazine spreads of lush backyards and contemporary outdoor living areas.

As you look at your concrete balcony with simple plastic chairs, you might think that it’s too small to decorate, but that’s just not true! With a few must-have garden products, some DIY vigor, and a sprinkle of creativity, you can turn your balcony into the outdoor oasis you deserve.

All in the details

When you focus on the details, it can do a lot for a small space. We love adding container plants to any setting to “junglify” concrete and neutral-colored walls. Container plants come in all shapes and sizes, and you can hang them from the ceiling, balcony railing, or even create a vertical planter on empty wall space.

Furthermore, take your plants to the next level by adding small decorations that create a clean-cut aesthetic. For example, layer smooth garden pebbles or gravel on top of the soil to cover the dirt to add a bit of color and texture.

You can also play around with Fire Glass. It’s unique, comes in a variety of colors, and can be used for plants, fireplaces, or to complement an aquarium.

Get low

Who said you need to sit straight up in a patio chair to enjoy the view from your balcony? Ditch big furniture and let your guests sprawl out comfortably with a Moroccan-themed balcony layout.

Think large carpets adorned with puffy floor pillows and a low-standing table. Pallets are affordable and easy for making furniture that is lower to the ground. Hang lanterns and fairy lights to complete the look. You can even add a macrame hanging swing!

Use your wall-space

We already touched on empty wall space in the first section, but it’s very important, so we’re bringing it back. When you have tight quarters to move around in, wall space is essential for storage and decorating!

Install shelves to hold supplies or plants, hang lights, or books. For lower wall space, install a small wooden folding table that unlatches from the wall when you need it for your wine and cheese plate.
