Pet owners are becoming more conscious about landscaping with their fur babies in mind, especially since the pandemic resulted in a surge of pet adoptions and people spending more time at home with their dogs and cats.

Adding fencing to the perimeter of the yard is one addition pet owners are going for, while some are doing away with grass lawns and opting for low-maintenance turf instead.

This prevents dogs from tearing up the grass and causing unsightly bare spots. Plus, turfgrass is easy to hose down after pets relieve themselves.

2. Going green

The trend of living more sustainably has been going strong for some time now, with no signs of slowing down. 

Xeriscape landscaping is becoming popular as droughts continue to plague parts of the US and people are looking for ways to use less water. This consists of creating a landscape that requires little to no irrigation. 

Gardners are doing away with harmful pesticides and replacing them with safe, natural methods. There’s also a shift in the types of plants being selected for gardens, as invasive species are getting the boot and native species are embraced.

3. Outdoor living spaces

We love this trend that continues to flourish in the New Year! More and more homeowners are blurring the lines between the indoors and outdoors, with additions such as outdoor kitchens, fireplaces, movies outside with a projector screen, and gas-powered fire pits that double as cozy furniture. 

But in 2022, you can switch things up by bringing the outdoors inside your humble abode. This can be done simply by starting an indoor container garden with hanging plants and pots set by windows or even an herb garden in your kitchen.

Decorate containers with gravel, Fire Glass, or landscaping stones for fun. If you’re renovating your home, consider using pebble tile flooring in the shower or as a zen backsplash on the kitchen wall.
